Prepare for driving on Anaheim's slick roads

While California is known for its sunny and warm weather, there are rainy days that Anaheim residents have to contend with. On these days, anyone who is driving should ensure they are prepared to deal with the slick road conditions.

Before you head out on the wet roads, you must ensure that your vehicle's tires are in good shape. Tires without enough tread can't grip the road and could lead to your vehicle skidding or hydroplaning. Ideally, you will check this on a day when the roads aren't wet so that you can have them changed before you encounter slick roads.

Lights and wipers are important

Your vehicle needs working lights and windshield wipers when it is raining. Make sure that you turn on the headlights so that other drivers can see you. The wipers should be in good shape so they whisk water away from the glass for a clear line of sight.

Leave earlier than usual

You can't drive as fast as you normally would, and you might encounter other drivers who are moving slowly. This can lead to your trip taking longer than is typical. If you leave earlier than usual, you won't have to worry about showing up late if you come across slow-moving vehicles or if you have to drive slower than you expected. Additionally, don't use cruise control when the roads are slick.

Give other drivers more room

Rainy conditions can lead to drivers taking longer to start moving and to stop. Give them more room to maneuver. Make sure that you don't drive too closely because you might not be able to stop in time if they slam on their brakes.

Prepare for problems

One issue that you might face when there is water on the road is hydroplaning. As little as 1/12 inch of water can lead to this problem. If your vehicle starts to hydroplane, take your foot off of the gas pedal and try to keep your vehicle straight. Hydroplaning can cause your vehicle to spin. If it does, steer in the direction of the spin, but don't try to turn the wheel too quickly. By taking your time, you reduce the likelihood of flipping over.

Individuals involved in a crash should seek medical care for any injuries they suffer. Once this is done, they might opt to pursue compensation from the driver who struck them. This holds the negligent motorist liable for the financial damages.
