Most Anaheim area residents understand the importance of driving safely. There are many aspects of safe driving including driving the speed limit, limiting distractions, and not driving after drinking alcohol. Unfortunately, a driver can’t control everyone else and occasionally they come across other dangerous drivers that can cause a serious accident.

Recently a Bellflower man was arrested for murder after driving drunk and causing a fatal car crash in Long Beach. The man was speeding along Anaheim St. when he tried to make a right turn onto Pacific Coast Highway when he lost control of his car and hit the victim’s car which was traveling north on Pacific Coast Highway. The victim was found unconscious and died at the scene. The defendant and a passenger in his car were taken to a local hospital with injuries. The defendant has now been charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense, and various other charges. He is facing a sentence of up to life in prison.

Driving under the influence is a serious offense in California. If a person has suffered a serious injury because of a drunk driver they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in motor vehicle accidents. An attorney can visit the accident scene and interview witnesses, review the police reports, and get answers as to what happened to cause the accident. They can hold the negligent party responsible for their mistake. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

Families that are affected by a serious car accident due to a drunk driver do have legal rights. These families have suffered a tremendous loss and have the legal right to hold the negligent party responsible for their mistake.
