Safety tips for cyclists

Have you noticed that more and more cyclists are on the road every year? With the increase in health awareness and environmental concerns, many people have adopted these modes of transportation.

Despite its benefits, cycling also has dangers. Therefore, these are a few cycling safety tips you should follow.

Check and maintain your bike

After you choose a bike that fits you properly and is roadworthy, give it a thorough check. Tighten all the nuts and bolts in your pedals, seat, stem and handlebars. Test your front and back brakes. Check the tension of your chain and your tire pressure. Also, monitor your tire wear. Search your spokes to ensure that they are all straight, tight and properly placed.

Protect yourself

First, choose a helmet that fits your head properly and protects your brain and meets your local legal requirements. Do not forget to apply sunscreen during the day.

Increase your visibility

If you plan to ride at night, install a tail light, but install a headlight for both day and night riding. Also, get rearview mirrors for your handlebars. Wear clothing that makes you visible, such as bright, florescent and reflective options, especially at night.

Plan your route

Plan your route carefully before you leave your house. Choose wider roads and avoid busy intersections. Avoid cycling during rush hours when traffic is high, and do not ride on the sidewalk because it endangers pedestrians. Ride with traffic in a predictable manner.

Eliminate distractions

Avoid wearing headphones and leave your phone in your pocket. Get rid of all distractions so that you can focus on the road and your surroundings.

The law sees you as a vehicle, even if drivers do not, so obey traffic laws and adopt these safety tips.
